Self love sounds like a buzz word, but is an important concept to heal wounds, pains and hardships. During life’s hardships, self love is necessary to trump self-loathing thoughts and behaviors. There are countless ways one initiates self love, but here are five simple methods to ignite the self love within.
1. Self Care
Whether it's an epsom salt bath or a yoga class, take care of your physical body. Most people experiencing a break up or divorce are in a low point, if not already in a rock bottom state. During hardships, it's important to take care of the mind and the body. It's like the chicken and the egg, which one comes first? The same applies to the mind and the body. When the body feels good, so does the mind. When the mind feels good, so does the body. This is why self-care is crucial during tough times.
There are plenty of ways to initiate self care such as below: -Massage -Energy Healing -Spa / Sauna -Hiring a Fitness Trainer -Meditation Class -Counseling 2. Read Quotes
In my life, reading quotes during tough times aided the healing process. It made me believe in myself and know that every human on this planet experienced hardships. Quotes inspire us to push past adversity and ignite the flame that sits within. Here are a couple of my favorite quotes:

Everyone dislikes something about themselves. Their hair. Their waist size. Their impulsive behavior. As much as we nag on our negative aspects, there are many things that we like about ourselves. Focus on those things. Write them down in a journal or make a poster board - whatever you need to do to focus on the beauty that is within you.
Sure, it's great to focus on our beautiful eyes or skin, but what about your character or inner world? Are you a nurturing person? Are you warm and affectionate? Are you a good cook? You have a lot to offer yourself and the world, focus on your gifts, accept your weaknesses and work on the things that you want to improve. 4. Change Your Diet
Regardless of Gatorade and mainstream media tells you, food is medicine. For thousands of years, people cured illness and disease with food and herbs. The same is true today despite western medicine promoting pills and anti-depressants.
Today, the battle of the artificial vs natural food war is full on today. Eat more natural foods like fruit and vegetables. These foods fuel the body with vital nutrients that we lose during stressful and "fight or flight" states. Nature loves you, which is why it produces what it does. 5. Spend Time in Nature
The most loving thing we can do as humans is to reconnect to our "real" mother, Mother Earth. The earth and God loves its inhabitants. Sometimes love can be tough, but know there is a silver lining amidst all obstacles.
Mother Earth gives us the strength, energy and love we need in order to push past our boundaries and bullshit. The energy we get from nature restores our minds, bodies and spirits. Sit in nature. Breathe in nature. Walk in nature. Take a hiking class. Sit at the beach - whatever you want to do, just do it. What are your favorite methods for self love?
