A Journey into Thought & Spirit

Sunspiration #65: 2018 a Year of Transformation

12/31/2017

2017 has been a shapeshifter, a year of new beginnings (2017 being a #1 year in numerology). 2018 is an 11 universal year, and the new year begins with the Capricorn sun and the cancer new moon, both  at 11-degrees, activating the 11-11 portal. The sun and moon form a harmonious triangle to Neptune at 11 degrees Pisces.

This is an intense birth of new beginnings. And not all beginnings are roses and unicorns. Some new beginnings must shed, release and let go of the past. It may be old habits, behaviors, relationships, careers - anything that's been holding you back.  Now is the time to set new intentions and release what is no longer serving us.

So for this New Year, this is the year for everyone to start with a clean slate; a new book where today is the preface, tomorrow is Chapter 1 and December 31, 2018 is the conclusion.

What do you hope for in 2018?

Happy New Year.

As always, inspired by the sun,
Elizabeth

Sunspiration #64: Being Thankful for What You Have & How to Make Life Better

12/17/2017

Christmas is less than 10 days away. In a world where consumerism rules the holidays, we are lost and disconnected from the true meaning of Christmas.

We've disconnected from the Pagan Nordic roots of the winter solstice, the energy of the land, and the spiritual meaning of the birth of Christ. This is the darkest time of the year where darkness rules over the light.

It is the time to reflect on our blessings and everything that we have - our health, home, family, friends, pets, jobs, benefits etc. Always know that somewhere else in the world someone has bigger problems than you. Some people are homeless. Some people have a miscarriage. Some people have been unemployed for years and unable to get back into the work force.

Being thankful for what you have is the essence of humanity. Like the ripple effect, the more we express our gratitude the more we can help other people see the light and positives in their life. If the world became more thankful, we would not suffer from the many issues and problems that exist today.

Merry Christmas,

As always, inspired by the sun,
Elizabeth

The Power of Now & Then - An Excerpt

Your experience can create great things,
if you stay in the moment.

Timing is everything in life. While enduring one of the most difficult time periods of my life, I have been reminded to focus on the "power of now." Focusing on the  now is difficult, but not impossible. It takes a while to train the brain, but know it is achievable. Excerpts from this book arrived in my email inbox and relating to the message and the book's concept, I wanted to share one of the most powerful messages - the power of now and then.

Dwelling on the past and worrying about the future is common in this technological age. Social media ignites the idea that everything in life has to be perfect and stirs emotions of how everyone's life looks so glamorous meanwhile ours may "suck." It makes us worry more about the future, and like a hamster running in a cage, we strive for further perfection or this ideal life.

Focus on the now. Focus on what you can do in this moment to make a change, knowing that this is a stepping stone to your future self. These are all lessons I remind myself daily and without further ado, here is the except of "The Power of Now and Then" written by Gary Szenderski.

Your experience can create great things, if you stay in the moment.

I have often written about the power of being in the moment and appreciating what is happening this very second. Being in the now is empowering in many ways because it frees us from the burden of the past and worry of the future. Being present and aware allows us to gather more input and develop a greater ability to absorb what is happening now. Noticing details about surroundings or the look and words of people we’re with is heightened when our mind stops living in the past or future and pays attention to what is right now.

It takes real practice to stay in the moment, but it’s worth it. If we learn to use the now as a place of engagement or even refuge from worry, we begin to get a glimpse of ourselves observing ourselves. This self-observation and reflection is extremely useful when applying all of the previous moments of our life – the then– to what will be the new now. In other words, our experience, good or bad, is always with us and available to help construct and hopefully enjoy the now that is currently upon us.

The power of “then” lies in its symbiotic relationship with our psyche and ego. Whatever we may have learned can be useful in any given moment. And any given meditative awareness of the moment, the power of now is the most fertile time for launching new thoughts and writing new chapters in our life. That’s because whatever path we have taken to get to this place in time, has prepared us for the “new now” we’re about to slide into. If we tap into what got us here, we can create a better version of ourselves from here forward, one step, one chapter, one moment at a time.

Sunspiration #63: Every Experience Shapes and Defines Who You Are

Life is not easy. We humans make life more complicated by following our lower mind. The lower mind is our reptilian brain,  the ego, the voice that worries and and contemplates the "couldas, wouldas and shouldas."

Life is like a river. The water flows forward but hits various peaks of highs and lows. The lows can be as small as flowing down a tiny pebble or as large as a waterfall, either way, the highs and lows of life shape who you are. And during those low times, take adversity as a challenge and the time to change to improve your life as a new and better you.
