From yoga prayers to the bible, ancient spiritual teachings talk about the battle between the light and dark.
On an individual and collective level, light and dark exists in all levels of life. The one we should be most concerned about our own light and shadow sides. We cannot eliminate the shadow within us, but we can CONTROL it.
After I studied yoga in India, the light consumed me. I worried so much about my shadow side that I completely ignored those processing of those emotions. And at times, kindness can be taken advantage of by those who see kindness as a weakness.
The point is to balance the energies. We cannot have yin without the yang. Our shadow side can protect us, since many people think the shadow is bad and they don't want to ever expose that side of themselves. It's about understanding the benefits of both as a flower with too much sun withers away and dies.
It's all about balance and spreading as much light as you can in a dark world.
